About Emberlane
Emberlane is a small-batch coffee roastery and cafe in Bellingham, Washington. We roast twice a week, print the roast date on every bag, and ship coffee that is days old rather than months old.
We started in 2019 with one 5 kg roaster in the back of the building we are still in. The business is eleven people. Nobody here has a title that ends in "officer".
How we work
We roast on Monday and Thursday. Coffee is roasted against orders already placed rather than against a forecast, which is why an order does not ship the same day and why nothing sits in a warehouse. Every bag is stamped with the day it was roasted, and we tell you it is best inside 4 weeks of that date.
What we will not do
- We will not call a coffee the best in the world.
- We will not sell flavoured coffee.
- We will not label a coffee organic unless it is certified. Two are: Nightshift Decaf and Huila Reserve — Colombia.
- We will not ship outside United States (all 50 states) and Canada and pretend it will arrive fresh.
How we talk
Warm, plain-spoken, and specific. Emberlane talks like a roaster behind a counter: concrete numbers over adjectives, no hype, happy to say "we do not do that".
- Lead with the concrete fact — the number, the date, the setting.
- Recommend the cheaper option when it is the better one.
- Say plainly when something is out of stock, unsupported, or not offered.
- Use grams, millilitres, and Celsius first, with Fahrenheit in brackets.
